Discipleship

Discipleship

WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP?

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Matthew 28:19-20

Although many emphasize the word “Go” in verse 19, Jesus’ primary command is for His disciples to go and make more disciples. But the question is, what is a disciple? The word “disciple” literally means follower. In the New Testament, a disciple was a follower of Jesus, which meant a person followed not only Jesus’ words, but also His example. This is why Jesus told the disciples in Matthew 28:20 to teach new disciples to observe all that He had commanded. As a result, a disciple of Christ is one who not only believes the teachings of Jesus, but one who puts them into practice.

At Mercy Hill, we believe discipleship is not a program offered, but instead it is ingrained in our very DNA. Furthermore, it is not a command given to pastors alone, but is a call for all of God’s people to make disciples who in turn make more disciples.

One on One Discipleship is a six month partnership of learning what it means to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. In this process you will learn how to study God’s word on a daily basis and then live it out. Other aspects of growth in this process include the following: learning how to biblically pray, establishing a basic biblical theology, learning how to lead your family through Bible teaching, actively taking part in sharing the Gospel, taking part in local and foreign missions, and leading others through the same process!

DISCIPLESHIP AT MERCY HILL IS EXPERIENCED THROUGH…
Corporate Worship

The body of Christ is called to gather together regularly for the purpose of worshipping God. Our services include singing songs that are Gospel-centered, prayer, the observance of Lord’s Supper and Baptism, giving of tithes and offerings, expository preaching, and an invitation to respond.

Small groups

Groups that meet throughout our community to help believers grow alongside others in the faith. Each group meets regularly in order to study God’s word, care for one another, and take the gospel to unbelievers throughout their communities.

Foundation Classes

Classes designed to go deeper into the Christian faith. Studies include: Why Trust the Bible? What is Biblical Theology? What is Systematic Theology? Intro to Church History. Each class is open to people of all ages and are offered at different times throughout the year.

One-on-One Discipleship
